Reflection Questions for Coaches at Mid-Year: A Practical Set

A mid-year review built on numbers alone misses a lot. How many sessions you delivered, how full your practice is, how much revenue you made: these are useful, but they do not tell you whether you are doing your best work or whether your practice is moving in the right direction.

Good reflection questions go deeper. Here are fifteen that coaches find genuinely useful at the halfway point of the year.

About Your Clients

  • Which client made the most progress this half-year, and what made that possible?
  • Which client felt stuck, and what was really going on?
  • Was there a moment in a session that surprised me? What did I learn from it?
  • Which coaching program felt the most draining, and what does that tell me?
  • Did I challenge my clients enough, or did I stay in comfortable territory?

About Your Practice

  • Am I spending my time the way I planned at the start of the year?
  • Which part of my practice takes more time than it should?
  • Is my intake process giving me the information I actually need?
  • What system worked better than expected, and which one consistently let me down?

About Your Direction

  • If I were starting this year fresh today, what would I do differently?
  • Is my current client mix the right one for where I want my practice to go?
  • What skill do I want to develop in the second half of the year?
  • Am I learning from my coaching work, or am I on autopilot?
  • What would make the second half of this year genuinely good?
  • What do I need to stop doing to make room for what matters?

Make Your Reflections Actionable

The point of reflection is not insight for its own sake. After working through these questions, pick two or three things you want to do differently in the second half of the year. Write them down.
