How to Introduce FocusCoachee to Your Coaching Client

How you introduce FocusCoachee determines whether your client sees it as a valuable part of the journey or just another app to log into. The framing makes all the difference.

You've set up FocusCoachee and know what it can do. Now comes the next step: bringing your client on board. That first conversation about the tool sets the tone. Here are three approaches that work, plus the correct sequence for the invitation.

1. Frame it as your investment in their success

Clients disengage when they feel like they're doing something for the coach. Flip it: this platform is something you've arranged for them, so they get the most out of the coaching journey.

"I've noticed that real change doesn't happen during our hour together - it happens in the week after. To support you as well as I can during that time, I use a secure platform. Your goals, your insights and your action points are all in one place. That way our work stays alive between sessions."

2. Make it a safe bubble

Coaching involves personal, sensitive topics. Clients want to know that what they share is genuinely private. Emphasize that this platform is far more secure than messaging or regular email.

"We're going to be discussing personal things. Your privacy matters to me, so we won't use WhatsApp or regular email. Everything in this platform is secured behind a login. Only you and I have access."

3. Start together, start small

Don't send an invitation link and expect the client to figure it out. Walk through it together the first time - during or at the end of a session.

  • Show where goals and actions are stored.
  • Fill in the first action together.
  • Agree that the client will answer one reflection question after the session - nothing more.

Keep it small at first. A platform that doesn't overwhelm in the first week will also get used in the second.

How the invitation works

In FocusCoachee, the coach invites the client through the platform. The client receives a welcome email and activates their own account. Once the client has activated the account, you can set up the workspace together - adding goals, starting the first program, or scheduling a session.

  1. Coach sends invitation via FocusCoachee.
  2. Client receives welcome email and activates the account.
  3. Coach and client set up the workspace together - ideally in the first session.

A sample message for your invitation

When you send the invitation, you can add a personal note. This tends to work well:

"Hi [Name],

I've sent you an invitation to FocusCoachee. This will be our central space during the coaching journey - your goals, reflections and our appointments will all be in one place.

Click the link in the welcome email to activate your account. Then, in our first session, we'll walk through the platform together so you know exactly how it works.

Best,
[Your name]"

What does your client see in FocusCoachee?

As a coach, you see the same thing as the coachee. The starting point is the Momentum Board: a timeline of the coaching journey with sessions, goals and actions in chronological order. From there, the coachee can:

  • read and add reflections
  • check off and track actions
  • review goals and follow their progress

In the first session together, open the workspace and walk through it briefly. That way the client immediately knows what's there, what's expected of them and how they can actively contribute.
