Reflection Questions for Coaches at the Start of Autumn
Coaches spend a lot of time asking questions. Good ones. Questions that help clients see their situation more clearly, challenge assumptions, and find direction. Less often do coaches turn the same quality of reflection toward their own practice.
September is a natural moment to do exactly that. Here are questions worth sitting with.
About Your Clients
- Which of my current clients is making real progress, and why? What am I doing well in that program?
- Which program feels stuck or unclear? What is my role in that?
- Do I know what each of my active clients is working toward right now?
- Which client relationships energize me, and which drain me?
About Your Methods
- Which approaches or exercises have I used consistently this year? Which have I let go of or avoided?
- Am I challenging myself with new methods, or defaulting to familiar ones?
- What is the thing I do in sessions that clients seem to find most valuable?
About Your Practice Structure
- How much time am I spending on administration versus actual coaching?
- Do I have a clear intake process, or am I improvising with each new client?
- What happens between sessions? Do clients have structured support, or is there a gap?
- If I look at my practice from the outside, what would a new client experience?
About Your Own Development
- What have I learned about myself as a coach in the past year?
- Where am I operating at the edge of my competence? Is that intentional?
- Do I have enough supervision, peer support, or professional development?
What to Do with Your Answers
Reflection is only the first step. The questions above are designed to surface both what is working and what could improve. Pick one or two areas where you notice a gap, and decide on one concrete change you will make before the end of October.
If your answers include something about practice structure, client overview, or between-session support, FocusCoachee might be worth exploring. See the plans and try it free.
